"Upon acquisition of an electronic ticket by phone or Internet, passengers will not have to go to a travel agency to collect their paper tickets. This possibility facilitates and simplifies travelling by air even more.", said Director General of FlyLAL – Lithuanian Airlines Mr. Tadas Pukšta.
Electronic tickets are already accepted to the flights to Amsterdam (AMS), Dublin (DUB), Munich (MUC), Tallinn, Hamburg (HAM) and Hanover (HAJ). From the end of this month, this possibility will become available also to travellers to Paris and Lyon. As soon as this year, e-tickets will be introduced on the flights to Moscow and Istanbul.
"Up till now, e-tickets can be bought only to direct flights provided by FlyLAL - Lithuanian Airlines. But as soon as from the 10th of November, passengers will be offered a possibility to buy electronic tickets to the flights provided by our partners, first of all airline KLM. Agreements on e-tickets are planned to be signed with our 5 more partners this year", stated Mr. T. Pukšta.
According to him, benefits of e-ticket system introduced will be felt by passengers, travel agencies and the air company itself. Passengers will not have to show paper tickets at their check-in, thus risk of losing a ticket disappears. By calling his/her agent by phone, a client can buy an electronic ticket from any country of the world without charged any extra payments. E-ticket system enables an airline to reduce the costs of ticket production, storage, delivery, accounting and processing from 10 to 1 dollar on average.
At present, 89% of tickets issued in Europe are electronic, while the global average is 84%, and this figure in Lithuania is only 26%.
Introduction of a new ticket system in Lithuania is expected to bring more popularity to ticket booking by internet. Having introduced internet ticket trading system more than year and a half ago, tickets sold by flyLAL - Lithuanian Airlines by internet account for over 35%. Market researches and passengers’ polls show that clients with internet access prefer online ticket booking.
